Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal condition that affects lots of women of reproductive age. A lot of people just think of PCOS affecting fertility and periods, but since PCOS is hormonal, it actually impacts a Cyster’s body way beyond that. Women with PCOS often experience lots of chronic symptoms due to these hormonal imbalances.
One of the common hormone imbalances that affects a Cyster’s body is testosterone. Testosterone is an androgen that can prompt plenty of unpleasant symptoms in a woman when the levels are too high! Some PCOS symptoms that can find their root cause in high testosterone include hirsutism, weight gain, mood swings, acne, hair loss, and, yes, fertility problems!
It’s true there’s no quick cure or medication to cure PCOS, however, there are lots of ways to naturally find symptom relief! Diet, exercise, stress management, better sleep, and even supplements like Ovasitol and zinc can help lower testosterone. But, you know what else can? Herbal teas!
PCOS Tea Blend Recipe to Reduce Testosterone
I’ve actually been working on the perfect blend of herbal teas to solely help Cysters lower testosterone and reverse symptoms. There are certain herbs that can help with all sorts of conditions, including PCOS! Our Testosterone Relief Tea includes all the best quality ingredients pre-blended and packaged in convenient plastic and BPA-free tea bags. In just a few minutes you can have delicious and beneficial tea specifically curated for you and your PCOS body!
You can order the tea here or if you want to try to make the blend yourself, this is how you do it:
Ingredients
- Spearmint – reduces testosterone, inhibits the binding of androgens to their receptors
- Nettle – detoxifying, binds to and removes excess androgen hormones from the body
- Cinnamon – improves insulin sensitivity and helps regulate menstrual cycles in PCOS
- Peppermint – digestive aid, reduces excess androgens in PCOS
- Chamomile – anti-inflammatory, supports stress hormone balance in PCOS
Instructions
Step 1
Locate loose leaf tea variations of each of the ingredients. You don’t want to go with pre-bagged options when making your own blend, because you won’t be able to get the proper ratios.
Step 2
Mix the loose leaf teas together in a large bag or container. Teas should not be exposed to sunlight, so opt for opaque options if you can. If not, just make sure your tea blend is shut in a dark, cool place like a cabinet.
Step 3
When you want to brew some tea. Put 1 TB of your blend in a tea infuser. Then, boil water to 212° and pour that over your tea infuser into an 8 oz mug.
Step 4
Allow the infuser basket to sit in the hot water for 3-4 minutes and then remove it. If you leave it for too long, it could get bitter. So, it’s important to take it out after 3-4 minutes. If you’re still thirsty after your first mug, use the same tea leaves to brew another mug!
Step 5
Enjoy your tea and remind PCOS symptoms they are NOT invited to the tea party!
Benefits of Herbal Tea For PCOS
- Improving insulin sensitivity: Insulin resistance is a common issue with PCOS, and it contributes to things like weight gain, fatigue, cravings, skin darkening, and more. Plus, it can worsen hormone imbalance! Luckily, herbal tea can help target this.
- Weight management: Losing weight with PCOS is hard due to insulin resistance, hormonal imbalances, and stress. There’s a lot working against you both mentally and physically! Herbal teas can help support the body and mind.
- Reducing inflammation: Chronic inflammation can cause GI issues, insulin resistance, skin issues, body pain, fatigue, and more! Herbal teas can help remedy inflammation and calm the immune system.
- Improving acne: Hormonal acne is a struggle of a lot of Cysters due to high androgens and other hormonal imbalances. Since herbal teas can help reduce testosterone, acne can be improved, too!
- Reducing hirsutism and hair loss: Hirsutism is excessive hair growth on certain types of the body. Because of high testosterone, many Cysters grow dark, coarse hair on their upper lip, chin, chest, or back, while losing hair on their heads. This can be so difficult to deal with, but lowering testosterone with herbal teas can help!
- Regulating menstrual cycles: Regular periods are hard to come by with PCOS! However, herbal teas can help promote regularity to help with fertility as well as overall wellness and hormone balance.
- Enhancing fertility: Fertility overall is a struggle for many Cysters, but herbal teas can help with all aspects of conceiving and pregnancy by reducing stress, improving circulation, promoting healthy ovulation, regulating cycles, supporting uterine health, and lowering oxidative stress.
- Improving sleep quality: Women with PCOS are much more likely to experience sleep disturbances than other women. This is concerning because sleep is essential for hormone balance, inflammation, and insulin sensitivity. Herbal teas can help with all that by improving your sleep.
