Inositol
You already know I’m a huge fan of inositol for helping reverse PCOS symptoms. It’s one of my top go-tos. But here’s something important to keep in mind. If you take high doses of myo- or d-chiro inositol alongside berberine, it can drop your blood sugar too low.
Yes, it’s possible to take both, but you’ve got to be mindful about it. Always consult with your doctor to determine the correct dosage for each, and if you should space them out. The last thing you want is a surprise blood sugar crash while you’re just trying to support your hormones.
GLP-1 Medications
Lately, more and more Cysters have been getting prescribed GLP-1 weight loss meds like Ozempic. And you know I’m not a big fan, because it’s really just a short-term fix. But if you decide to go that route, there’s something important to keep in mind: skip the berberine.

Thyroid Medication (Levothyroxine)
There’s a connection between PCOS and hypothyroidism. If you’ve been diagnosed with it, chances are your doctor put you on levothyroxine, a synthetic form of the T4 hormone. It’s important to note, though, that Berberine can interfere with how your body absorbs the medication.
If you take levothyroxine and berberine at the same time, it can reduce how well your body absorbs the thyroid medication. It might also leave you feeling extra tired or experiencing low blood sugar symptoms, as both can impact your metabolism.
The good news? You might be able to take both—you just need to time it right. Keep levothyroxine in the morning and take berberine later in the day, after lunch and dinner. That way, both can do their jobs without stepping on each other’s toes. Always check with your doctor to make sure this timeline is the right fit for you!
Antibiotics
Berberine naturally has antimicrobial properties, which sounds like a bonus. But if you’re taking an antibiotic, it can actually work against you. It might amplify your antibiotic’s effects, interfere with how it’s metabolized through your liver, or mess with your gut microbiome.
Bottom line: If your doctor prescribes an antibiotic, hit pause on berberine until your antibiotics have run their course.
Cinnamon
You’ve probably seen me talk about cinnamon tea or supplements before—they’re a great natural way to support insulin sensitivity. But if you’re already taking a high-dose cinnamon extract, it’s best to hold off on berberine.
