What are the Benefits of Cinnamon and Clove Tea for PCOS?
Improves Insulin Sensitivity
Up to 80% of women with PCOS struggle with insulin resistance meaning your body has a tough time processing glucose and keeping blood sugar levels stable. Instead of converting that glucose into energy, your body holds onto it, storing it as fat and absorbing it into the bloodstream. And you know what that means… stubborn weight gain, energy crashes, and even elevated androgen levels, throwing more hormones out of whack.
But, here’s the good news: cinnamon and cloves are super helpful for combating insulin resistance. Studies show that this powerhouse spice can help improve insulin sensitivity, making it easier for your body to regulate blood sugar levels. When blood sugar is stable, the risk of weight gain and diabetes two major concerns for women with PCOS goes way down.
Regulates Menstrual Cycle
If you have PCOS, one of your symptoms might be irregular periods with missed ovulation. In fact, some Cysters go months without a period, which can make things super frustrating especially if you’re trying to conceive, avoid cysts, or ease a number of PCOS symptoms. But, here’s the exciting part: cinnamon and clove tea might just be one of the secret weapons your cycle needs!
By lowering androgens (those male hormones that throw off your cycle) and improving insulin sensitivity, this powerful tea can help restore ovulation and promote more regular menstrual cycles. And, when your hormones are in harmony, everything else like energy levels, mood, and even skin health starts falling into place.
Reduces Inflammation
Oxidative stress and inflammation are two major culprits behind so many frustrating PCOS symptoms such as weight gain, acne, and hormone imbalances that just won’t quit. The good news? Cloves and cinnamon are packed with powerful antioxidants that can help fight back!
Cloves are loaded with eugenol and vitamin C, two incredible compounds that reduce inflammation and protect your cells from damage. And let’s talk about cinnamon this spice isn’t just delicious; it also has potent anti-inflammatory effects that support metabolic health and help combat chronic low-grade inflammation (a common type of PCOS).
Lowers Androgens
One of the biggest hormone imbalances women with PCOS experience? Elevated androgens especially testosterone. When those levels are too high, they can bring on some seriously frustrating symptoms like acne, hair loss, and excess hair growth (AKA hirsutism). Not exactly fun.
But, here’s where clove and cinnamon trees come in! The spices from these trees have been shown to help lower androgen levels, which can help reduce breakouts, slow unwanted hair growth, and even prevent ovarian cysts. It’s just one more reason a warm cup of cinnamon and clove tea might be your new go-to for managing PCOS symptoms!
